In the Works

Adara is becoming quite the little cook/baker. She did the cooking on Tuesday while I was stuck on the couch, and she regularly asks me if she can "cook something". =) Well, I focused on other areas of cleaning yesterday, so the kitchen was A MESS!!! This morning I had to clean before I could cook the eggs. But I was chuckling to myself as I washed dishes and wiped counter tops because Adara is still at the stage in her learning where she makes a BIG mess when she cooks. ;) You know, flour sprinkles and liquid dribbles of all kinds, just about of everywhere. And for the most part, it's kind of a disaster unless I help...

That got me thinking about my attempts to be like my Father. I want to do good things, but my sin gets in the way. I want to serve, but I often end up making a mess. And if God is not working in and through me, it will be disastrous! I'm just a more sophisticated version of Adara-- I'm "in the works"! ;)

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Psalms 127:1

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:1-10

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:4-13
