I was thinking this morning about an email that a sister sent me a couple months ago. I had asked her to pray for me because I was struggling with selfishness in my heart. She was encouraging me that she had seen growth in my life. And I thought about how much I've learned and been encouraged by watching her life. That ran into thinking about watching my kids and other little people grow up, and how there are lots of older friends who have watched ME grow up. At first I thought, well, the older you get, the more people are watching you. Then I realized that people have been looking to my example-- for some reason there have always been people who mistakenly think that I've got my life together-- since I was very young. Light bulb moment: No matter your age or seeming anonymity, there will always be someone who is looking to you, WATCHING you, for a standard in their life. And beyond that, our Creator and King sees everything. So live carefully!
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-- that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained. Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.
Philippians 3:8-17
The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.
Psalms 33:13-15
