Sufficient

What comes to your mind when you hear the word "sufficient"? I think of just enough-- not too much, but just enough, or adequate. It seems to fall a little short though, when I think of God. He is SO MUCH GREATER than just sufficient. But He says to Paul that His grace is sufficient...

Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:8-9

I, on the other hand, fall so SHORT of being sufficient. I am weak and sinful. Lately I've been feeling that I am not sufficient for anything that He has placed before me. I fail so easily! But the Lord has graciously encouraged me-- again-- from the Chronicles of Narnia.

"'Welcome, Prince," said Aslan. "Do you feel yourself sufficient to take up the Kingship of Narnia?'
'I -- I don't think I do, Sir,' said Caspian. 'I'm only a kid.'
'Good,' said Aslan. 'If you had felt yourself sufficient, it would have been a proof that you were not..."

If I depend on my own strength, I WILL fail.

Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
Psalms 146:3-5

But if I live to glorify the One, Holy, and Triune God, and depend on His strength, He is honored.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:8-10
